This is official PowerPoint versus a large third-party catalog—not Canva versus Slides, and not two identical malls. PowerPoint still has the strongest Slide Master; Create feeds that master with first-party files. Slidesgo feeds Drive first and happens to ship PPTX.

Office-first vs Slides-first
If the file must open in PowerPoint on a managed PC, Create is the default. Workplaces that block random PPTX hosts will still allow create.microsoft.com. Follow how to download PowerPoint themes: scan the file, Design → Browse for Themes (.thmx / .potx / .pptx), then clean Slide Master fonts and unused layouts.
If the team lives in Drive, Slidesgo (or SlidesCarnival) is the faster path: copy the deck, or Theme → Import theme from another Slides file. See Slidesgo vs SlidesCarnival. Downloading Slidesgo’s PPTX for Office is fine; expect font and animation cleanup, same as any Slides-to-PowerPoint transfer.
Create will import into Google Slides as PPTX. Fonts and some layouts drift. Do not make that import your weekly ritual if Drive is home—use Slidesgo’s native copy.
Variety, education, and diagrams
Create is weaker on illustrated education and marketing variety. That is the trade for official, conservative files that survive a security review. Slidesgo is the catalog people mean when they want a themed classroom or campaign deck tonight.

How to apply each
Create: download from create.microsoft.com → open in PowerPoint → Design tab or open the .potx → Slide Master colors to brand hex. Shortlist of other free Office-friendly packs: best free PowerPoint themes.
Slidesgo: make a Google Slides copy or download PPTX. For an existing Slides deck, Theme → Import theme. Recolor in Theme → Colors. For an existing PowerPoint deck, Browse for Themes from the PPTX, then fix fonts.
Either → the other app: treat it as a transfer. PowerPoint import of Slides (and Slides import of PPTX) drops or flattens motion and substitutes fonts. Rebuild anything that must look exact.
When to skip Create
Skip Create if you already have a brand .potx. Skip it if the brief is illustrated education and IT allows third-party hosts. Skip it if Drive co-edit is the whole job. Skip it if the deck is a Canva or Figma artifact you will present from those apps.
When to skip Slidesgo
Skip Slidesgo if IT will not allow the download or the copy-to-Drive flow. Skip it if you need only a conservative Office shell. Skip it if the slide is the diagram. Skip cracked mirrors of “Slidesgo packs”; use the real site and read the license (attribution, no resale of the template).
Skip both if you only needed hex for a master you already have—Coolors and Realtime Colors. Skip both as AI draft tools; that is Gamma or Beautiful.ai.
Practical rule
Locked-down workplace, official files, PowerPoint is the inbox standard → Microsoft Create. Illustrated variety, Google Slides copy link, you will accept a third-party catalog → Slidesgo. Need both formats in one week? Prefer Slidesgo’s dual download, and keep PowerPoint as a last-mile export, not a second source of truth.

Calling Slidesgo “unsafe” because it is not Microsoft—scan and read licenses; it is a known catalog. Calling Create “enough for education illustration”—it is not trying to be. Importing Create into Slides every week. Paying SlideModel for a title slide. Mixing three covers from three hosts.
Official vs catalog is a home decision: Office vs Drive, conservative vs illustrated. Once you pick, apply the theme properly (Browse for Themes or Theme → Import theme) and stop converting.
If you are still torn, ask two questions. Who opens the file without a new account? And does the room need illustrated education energy or a file you can name in a security ticket? First question picks Drive vs Office. Second question picks Slidesgo vs Create. You do not need a third catalog until a diagram slide fails both. Write those two answers down before you browse.
