When Slidesgo is enough
A kickoff, a class project, a campaign recap. You need matching layouts and icons, not a 40-step operating model. Importing SlideModel PPTX into Google Slides (Theme → Import theme) works as a transfer. Fonts and animations often need cleanup—same warning as Slidesgo PPTX opened in Office. Do not run a weekly conversion if you can pick one home.
When to skip Slidesgo
Skip it when the bottleneck is a consulting diagram, not a themed title. Skip it when IT forbids the host. Skip it when you already have a brand .potx and only need hex (Coolors). Skip cracked reuploads.
When to skip SlideModel
Skip it when a free illustrated pack is enough. Skip it when Drive co-edit is the whole job and the pack has no honest Slides path. Skip it when the deck is a designed launch artifact—Figma or Canva. Skip paying until Create, PresentationGO, and a Slidesgo business pack have actually failed you.
AI tools (Gamma, Beautiful.ai) draft narrative decks. They do not replace a diagram library. Gamma’s PPTX is weaker than its web cards. Beautiful.ai is typically trial then paid, cleaner PPTX than Gamma, still not 50k diagrams.
Practical rule
Themed talk, education, marketing, Drive-first → Slidesgo. The slide is the diagram, board packet, PowerPoint-first → SlideModel. Unsure? Build the worst diagram slide in Slidesgo. If you are still drawing boxes by hand, pay (or try PresentationGO). If the cover and section breaks were the whole problem, stay free.

Kickoff plus campaign recap. Slidesgo. You needed covers and section breaks. Paying for diagrams would be theater.
Due diligence appendix, twelve process maps, real numbers. SlideModel, or PresentationGO first if budget is zero. Slidesgo will waste an afternoon of boxes.
Drive-first team, one ugly org chart. Try PresentationGO or a Slidesgo business pack for that single slide. If it still looks like a poster, buy or sample SlideModel for the diagram and keep Slidesgo for the talk slides—then recolor both to the same hex so the file is one deck.
IT-only Office. Neither may be allowed. Start with Microsoft Create, then request an exception for SlideModel if the diagram is the meeting.

How to decide in fifteen minutes
Open last deck. Find the worst diagram. Timebox rebuilding it in a free pack. If you finish and it survives real numbers, you did not need SlideModel. If you are still nudging connectors, you did. If there was no diagram and the cover was embarrassing, you needed Slidesgo (or Create), not a paid diagram foundry.
Write the rule for the team: talks vs diagrams. Mixing both hosts is fine once. Mixing five packs with five arrow styles is how “professional” looks accidental.
