What Beautiful.ai is
Beautiful.ai is presentation software with “smart slides”: layouts that reflow when you add a bullet or a chart. Brand consistency is the other half of the pitch—the deck stays aligned without a fight in Slide Master. It competes with Canva and Gamma as a slides tool, not with SlidesCarnival as a free Google Slides file host.
This page replaces our old Beautiful.ai listing so the comparison still has a home after we dropped the generic software directory. The article URL is /beautiful-ai/ (and /fr/beautiful-ai/). It is not a hub with nested entity URLs.
Typical commercial shape: a trial, then paid. There is not usually a lasting free plan the way Canva’s free tier lasts. We do not invent prices. Confirm the current offer and the license before you put a client deck in the tool.
Who it is for
Teams that want the deck to stay aligned without fighting Slide Master. Founders and operators who will type into a structure rather than place every box. Anyone who tried Gamma, liked the speed, and hated the PPTX.
Weaker fit when legal, school, or IT requires native Google Slides sharing. Weaker fit when the layout must be unusual—Smart Slides are less flexible once you leave the rails. Weaker fit when the workplace standard is a .potx that already exists in PowerPoint.
Export to PowerPoint when you must, then verify fonts and spacing. Beautiful.ai’s PPTX path is generally cleaner than Gamma’s. Gamma is a prompt-to-deck, web-card tool; its Office export is the weak side of that product. For a true Slides master, import from the Google Slides hub—Slidesgo or SlidesCarnival.
Beautiful.ai vs the field
| Tool | Strength | Skip when |
|---|---|---|
| Beautiful.ai | Auto-reflow, brand consistency, cleaner PPTX than Gamma | You need Drive-native editing or odd layouts |
| Gamma | Prompt-to-deck, web cards | You need faithful PPTX |
| Canva | Template mall, Brand Kit, generous free plan | You need native Slides collab |
| Google Slides + library | Drive comments, Theme → Import theme | You refuse to touch a master |
| PowerPoint + Microsoft Create | Strongest Slide Master, IT-safe files | You live in a design tool |
| Figma | Design-system components (Figma Slides ~2024) | Weekly Drive edits; PPTX import drops a lot |

Practical path
- Decide whether the team will live in Beautiful.ai. If no, do not start there.
- Use Smart Slides for narrative and simple comparison layouts. Do not force a 12-step operating model into a reflow tile—that is SlideModel territory.
- Present from Beautiful.ai when the audience can take that path.
- Export PPTX for Office inboxes. Open in desktop PowerPoint and check fonts, charts, and unused layouts in Slide Master.
- If Drive is mandatory after all, consider restarting from a Slides library rather than importing a messy PPTX. Theme → Import theme will not restore Smart Slide behavior.
When to pick something else
- Need a native Drive file → Google Slides + a template library
- Need Brand Kit lock-up and marketing export → Canva slides
- Need a prompt-to-outline first draft → Gamma
- Need Figma components tied to a design system → Figma slides
- Need official Office themes only → Microsoft Create
- Need hex for an existing master → Coolors, not a new editor
Skip Beautiful.ai if you expected a free theme mall. Skip it if unusual layouts are the product (custom magazine-style covers, experimental grids). Skip it if procurement will not approve another paid slides SaaS and Create plus Slidesgo already cover the file formats you ship.
License and export honesty
Verify what you can deliver to clients. A paid seat is not automatically a right to resell templates. PPTX export is a transfer: cleaner than Gamma does not mean identical to the web editor. If the org will only accept files built in Office, build in Office.
What Smart Slides feel like in practice
You add a fifth bullet. The layout breathes instead of colliding with a footer you forgot. You drop a chart and the title still aligns with the tile next to it. That is the job: consistency without Slide Master literacy. The cost is rails. A magazine cover, a weird grid, or a 12-step swimlane will fight the reflow. When the fight starts, you are in SlideModel or Figma territory—or back in PowerPoint drawing on purpose.
Brand controls in Beautiful.ai are there so a team does not invent a new navy per deck. They are not a Canva Brand Kit mall and not Figma variables tied to a product UI. If marketing already lives in Canva, do not split tokens. If design already lives in Figma, do not split tokens.
Export night (do this once)
- Present from Beautiful.ai if the audience can.
- If Office is mandatory, export PPTX once.
- Open in desktop PowerPoint. Check fonts, charts, orphan layouts in Slide Master.
- Recolor to brand hex if the export brought extras.
- Do not import that PPTX back into Beautiful.ai, Gamma, Canva, and Slides in a loop.
Cleaner than Gamma does not mean pixel-identical to the web editor. Unusual layouts are where fidelity and flexibility both sag.
Who should not start a trial
Anyone who must share a native Drive file tomorrow. Anyone who already has a brand .potx and only needed to paste numbers. Anyone whose procurement will not add a paid slides tool. Anyone who wanted a free theme mall—use Slidesgo or Create.
Trial, then paid, is the usual shape. Confirm the current offer. Confirm what you may deliver to clients. Then decide if reflow is worth another seat.
